Earnhardt Jr wins in
classic short-track battle at So. Boston June 12, 1999
This, students, was what they call "short-track
racing." ....Dale Earnhardt Jr. bulled his way past Jeff Green with 70 laps to go in
the Textilease Medique 300 presented by Advance Auto Parts at South Boston Speedway, and
led the rest of the way to collect his second win in as many weeks. Full Story
'Little E' keeping
things in perspective
June 8, 1999
God bless Dale Earnhardt Jr. for keeping his head firmly attached while everyone -- it
appears -- is trying to wrench it off with a whirlwind of activities surrounding his
fast-track racing career.
Dale Jr. dominates at
Dover Downs
Dale Earnhardt Jr. was cruising, absolutely cruising, in the MBNA Platinum 200 at Dover
Downs International Speedway. The 1998 NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division
champion took the lead from Dick Trickle on lap 89 and never looked back. He led the rest
of the way to collect his first win of the season, and the eighth of his career.

ACDelco will remain in NASCAR But
Probably Not With DEI
May 31, 1999 (Jayski's)
ACDelco will remain in NASCAR as a BGN car sponsor but will not be affiliated with Dale
Earnhardt Inc. next season. According to ACDelco spokespeople, when Ron Hornaday and NAPA
take over the #3 next season, the company will move to another team in the series. It will
not be a car owned by DEI(Times-Dispatch)(5-30-1999) -- UPDATE 1: Hearing Richard
Childress Racing may start a BGN team in 2000 and AC Delco could be their sponsor, also
supposedly RCR may not run a Truck team in 2000. (See Hornaday, NAPA moving to Busch
Series - below)
Earnhardt Jr. finishes 2nd behind
Cup driver, Mark Martin
May 30, 1999
Dale Earnhardt Jr. led laps 109-138, at times pulling to a
lead of more than a full second over Martin. But a bad pit stop on lap 139 put him well
behind Martin. Earnhardt and Martin battled on three late restarts, but the No. 3 ACDelco
Chevrolet just couldn't get past Martin's No. 60 Winn-Dixie Ford on short runs. "We
made some changes on the last stop and we got beat out of the pits," Earnhardt said.
"I couldn't get by him. It's tough, as good a car as he as, and as good a driver as
he is. We just tried to get by him, hopefully his car would come to us, but we didn't have
enough laps. "It takes this car a while to come back to us, but it was real good on
long runs. It just didn't work out." Dale Jr. gained 5 points on Matt Kenseth
and is only 84 points behind him in the season Points Standing. Race Results
Hornaday, NAPA moving to NASCAR
Busch Series
May 27, 1999 - CONCORD, N.C.
Ron Hornaday is ready for a new challenge. And NAPA and Dale Earnhardt Inc. are ready to
face it with him. APA and DEI announced Thursday a three-year deal to put Hornaday, a
two-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion, in the familiar No. 3 Chevrolet in the
NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division beginning next season.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. is his own man
May 20, 1999
Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s life has changed in countless ways, ways
in which even he probably doesn't yet realize. Two years ago, few pulled and tugged at him
for interviews, autographs, commercials and the like. Two years from now, once he's made
the jump to Winston Cup, the pressures he faces now will seem trivial, a picnic. The 1998
Busch Series champion will attempt to make his Winston Cup debut in the May 30 Coca-Cola
600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway, and in some ways, he'll never look back. He'll compete for
the Winston Cup circuit's Rookie of the Year title next year, giving the sport a highly
anticipated boost in a brand-new millennium. Many consider Earnhardt racing's next
mega-superstar, and he's already got the souvenir sales to prove it.
Tough night for Dale Jr and
Richmond
May 16, 1999
It was a rough night for a couple of the points leaders,
particularly defending champion Dale Earnhardt Jr., but also Elton Sawyer and Jason
Keller. On the flip side of the coin, it was a great night for Matt Kenseth, Jeff Green
and Todd Bodine.
Earnhardt Jr. qualifies 4th for
Hardee's 250 in a backup car May 14, 1999
Dale Earnhardt Jr. had to go to backup after crashing
in practice. The damage to Earnhardt's primary machine looked fairly minor, but the rear
end was bent too severely to repair on site. The car Earnhardt qualified won races last
year at Milwaukee, Gateway and Richmond, and dominated a 4th at Nazareth. The top-five
qualifers are 1. 57 Jason Keller Chv 00:21.616 124.907; 2. 60 Mark Martin Frd 00:21.665
