Earnhardt posts another top-ten finish - Steve Park 8th!
July 25, 1999 - Earnhardt who started 11th, stayed in the top-ten most of the day even leading for several laps. He made numerous strategic pit stops during two caution periods for brief rain and two accident related cautions during the closing laps of the Pennsylvania 500. On the final caution with 28 laps to go Earnhardt pitted for four tires and fuel. On the restart Earnhardt, 17th, and Tony Stewart, 16th, put on a real racing exhibition during the closing laps moving to 9th for Earnhardt and 4th for Stewart.  Bobby Labonte won by a substantial margin. Dale Jarrett 2nd, Mark Martin 3rd and Wally Dallenbach 5th.  Steve Park finished one position, 8th, ahead of his car owner Dale Earnhardt.

"We salvaged a top-10 out of it after going to the rear there near the end when we pitted for four new tires. The car didn't feel good on the other tires. I think that was the smart thing to do. It ended up kind of crazy. That car qualified well, but I don't know about it for the race. I think we've got a better flat-track car for Indy. That was a good run for Steve Park today. It was good to see him running up front. They need some good luck on that team. Pit strategy was a big key today. I was amazed that some of them made it on fuel, but that's the way it goes." - Dale Earnhardt

Senior showing he still has it
July 22, 1999 - Dale Earnhardt can sum up the 1999 Winston Cup season in three simple sentences: "Well, the Daytona 500 was great."  "Then we crashed at Rockingham and crashed at Atlanta."  "It's been interesting from then on just being competitive."  Of course, that doesn't touch on the win at Talladega, or the second-place finish in the Pepsi 400 on the Fourth of July weekend. He also doesn't mention he has four straight top-10 finishes, or the fact he's currently seventh in the point standings -- just 126 out of fifth. Full Story
