Earnhardt 7th at
Pocono 500 - Bobby Labonte wins June 20, 1999
Dale Earnhardt started 25th but moved up fast through
the field of 43 cars during Sunday's Pocono 500. Earnhardt ran in the top-ten most
of the day and late in the race was running as high as third. Bobby Labonte took on 4
tires with about 40 laps remaining which gave him the edge to win his first race at Pocono
and the ninth of his Winston Cup career. Jeff Gordon, Dale Jarrett, Sterling Marlin, Mark
Martin and Tony Stewart finish just ahead of Earnhardt. Earnhardt moves back into seventh
in the points standing, 176 points out of fifth and 475 points behind the points leader
Dale Jarrett. Earnhardt's crew, The Flying Ace's, gave him two of the best pit stops of
any team on Sunday, a 15.20 and 15.25 second pit stop! Final ResultsTop 25 Points Standing
Sterling Marlin smokes 'em for the
pole at Pocono June 18, 1999 Sterling Marlin posted the fastest lap during
first round qualifying, 170.506 mph, to set a new qualifying record for the Pocono 500 and
take the pole for Sunday's race. The previous record holder, Jeff Gordon qualified
17th. Dale Jarrett, Bobby Labonte, Bill Elliott and Rich Mast rounded out the top-five.
