Park, Andrews
combination clicking

This Steve Park/Paul Andrews deal is looking like a winner. Andrews, who took over crew
chief duties for Park at Charlotte back in May, has been instrumental in getting Park on
track and headed in the right direction. The duo clicked to the tune of a sixth-place
finish -- Park's best-ever in NASCAR Winston Cup competition -- in Sunday's Kmart 400 at
Michigan Speedway.
"We were trying to get a top-10 finish and we almost got a top-5 finish," Park
said after the race, a grin stretching wide. "These guys did a good job. Paul made
good calls in the pits all day long, the fuel mileage was good. We just needed to be a
little bit better on the race track. It seemed like every time we made a change, the race
track would change a little bit."
But they rolled with the changes enough to come home sixth. Andrews downplayed his role in
the success of the team lately (they also finished 16th at Dover a week ago), but it is
clear that his influence is pointing the No. 1 car to a No. 1 finish somewhere down the
road.
"This is a good car and a good organization," said Andrews. "They didn't
need much. We just kind of gave them what they needed to get over that little hump. We've
been right there knocking on the door. We almost got us a top-5 today. What I saw at
Charlotte proved we've got a lot to work with here and a lot of potential. We're all
excited about it.
"I believe we can win a race. Can we win it by the end of the year? That's probably
the big question. I'm not going to say we can't. I'm not going to give up on that. We've
got to have everything go our way. We've got to get Steve some more experience. He's
racing his first time next week at Pocono. We went there and tested and had a good test.
He's still fairly inexperienced, but things are going good. I don't think we could ask for
anything better right now. We're getting good response from Steve and the whole
organization is doing a good job right now."
Good enough to beat the boss, Dale Earnhardt, who owns the team. Earnhardt finished 16th.
"That's how I'm going to keep my job, by beating him, so I really hope I keep on
beating him," said Park.
