Earnhardt Jr. 'bridge'-ing gap between cars, music
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 20, 1999)
Watkins Glen International has announced Bridge, an alternative rock act from Charlotte,
N.C., has been named as the opening act for Edwin McCain Saturday night at Watkins Glen.
Bridge will be introduced by NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division champion, friend
and songwriter, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Earnhardt Jr., will introduce the band, conduct a
"Fan Forum" by fielding questions from the audience prior to the show, and join
Bridge on the drums for a "jam" session at the start of the concert. The concert
will be located on a stage between Turns 1 and 2 and in front of the Red, White, and Blue
Grandstands. Bridge and Earnhardt will take the stage at 6 p.m. ET.
"Bridge are great friends of mine," Earnhardt said. "Playing in front of
the fans at Watkins Glen will give them a chance to share their music with all the great
race fans in the Northeast and gives fans an opportunity to see some of the things I like
to do away from the race track."
Bridge was formed in July 1997 by two brothers, Terrill and Brandon Hinson. Terrill, lead
singer and rhythm guitar player, sings lead vocals while brother Brandon handles the
drums. Filling out the quartet are bassist John Mitchell and lead guitarist Troy Losse.
"It's a great honor to play at the Lysol 200 at Watkins Glen," Brandon Hinson
said. "Opening for Edwin McCain and playing our music for the race fans at The Glen
is an fantastic opportunity for us, we're very excited."
Bridge recently issued a new single in March titled "Three Word Rhyme Scheme"
featuring lyrics for the song "Eyes to See" by Earnhardt. "Three Word Rhyme
Scheme" and other material from Bridge is available on the ACDelco merchandise
display trailer.
Edwin McCain will take the stage at Watkins Glen on Saturday night, June 26. McCain has
become a NASCAR fan since he performed for the record crowd at this year's Daytona 500. He
has enjoyed popular success with the song "Solitude" and his hit single,
"I'll be," has dominated the popular music charts for nearly a year. "I'll
be" was featured on the popular television show, "Dawson's Creek," and
became a top 5 hit. McCain's new single "I could not ask for more" hit the
airwaves May 24, and has already started to crack the top 20.
Having an opportunity to be a part of the Daytona 500 was very exciting," McCain
said. " I'm looking forward to having a chance to perform at another one of NASCAR's
legendary tracks, Watkins Glen."
"Today's announcement that Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Bridge will open for Edwin McCain
gives fans a rare chance to see what a NASCAR superstar does for fun," said Bryan R.
Sperber, track president. "Having both Bridge and Dale perform continues to build on
an already great entertainment weekend."
Single day tickets are available for Saturday's events at $20. Full weekend general
admission tickets can be had for only $50. For ticket, camping, or additional information
