book from your site. No, I don't like the EGO minded # 24 driver. I have to agree with
some of the things I had read in the first article to the so called sports caster, what's
his name, oh yes, ' Mr Fennally ? ' It was written by the Wizard. Some of it I hadn't
heard about, but I do agree on the TV camera aspect of # 24 and his not so pretty Brooke.
The small book is 17 pages long, and I will read the whole article, and send my comments
to ' oh what's his name ' I'm 58 years old now and I lived in Dayton Ohio for 21 years and
got a good taste of racing from the early dirt tracks and Indy to NASCAR. My one comment
on how to understand auto racing, You have to smell the excitment to understand the love

thanks for the anti-Gordon stuff. This newspaper writer really did us NASCAR fans a
disservice when he used all of those stereotypes. I am an English teacher who grew up
around racing (my father raced stockcars at a local track when I was young), and I value
the tradition of NASCAR and its roots. I respect the older men like Dave Marcis and Dick
Trickle who, week in and week out, have almost no chance to win, but they race because
they enjoy the competition. The DuPunk represents everything that is wrong with NASCAR
today; the drivers all seem to pussy-foot around on the tracks because they're afraid to
piss off the sponsors. It's all about image and money and very few seem to speak their
minds. I agree with one of your other responses- those Pepsi Jeff Gordon moments make me
gag. I change the channel every time that add comes on. You're right- Jeffy winning isn't
the only reason we Gordon-haters dislike him. You've named all of the correct reasons to
dislike him. He's a me, me, me person.....I can't wait for another incident like Richmond,
when Rusty got him. See how fast he walked to get away from the cameras? I didn't hear him
thanking God that he didn't get hurt!! Now, imagine if that had been him upside down at
Daytona in 1997 instead of Earnhardt!Or if he had been the one bumped out of the way at
Bristol in '97 instead of Rusty? I don't think he'd be so blessed then! As far as I'm
concerned, I pay my money to go to a race, and if I want to boo Gordon, I will,and I will
boo loudly. However, I am wise enough to keep my mouth shut when Earnhardt gets booed,
because I realize that although they may be stupid, fair-weather Gordon fans, they still
have a right to their own opinion. I will not, and will never, get used to Gordon winning,
and I won't have to, because Gordon's fortune isn't going to last forever, and he'd better
remember how freaking blessed he once was and not complain when the wins stop coming. |

to see JR behind the wheel of the # 8 in 99 and beyond. I look for SR to take over the #1

Maybe he has visited and recognized his parents in victory lane so often in his young life
that it is well recognized he appreciates their sacrifice. OR, considering he comes from a
broken home, maybe there is some tension or unresolved issues regarding his parents. 3blk:
He seems confused about what God will or will not do regarding his driving. Big D: I find
his and many other Cups driver's references to God a real taste of fresh air. Although I
might not script his comments exactly the way he states them, I am willing to accept any
reference rather than no reference. 3blk: He must be cheating! Big D: I would not be at
all surprised if it was discovered the Henrick crew has discovered some advantages in
their chassis, engine, etc. programs. They hire the best, they are highly motivated, and
are looking for every edge. BUT, so is every team. Why did DE almost not run his qualify
laps at Daytona? Because his car failed numerous spec. tests. They just about rebuilt the
car in order to pass. Is that attempting to cheat OR merely looking for an edge? 3blk:
Hendrick is a convicted felon any and all of his accomplishments should be tarred and
feathered! Big D: Rick was tried and convicted and is serving his punishment. He could
have beat the rap had he plea bargained and squealed on many others who did exactly the
same thing. He was wrong and he paid. He deserves a second chance plus, he has contributed
a lot to many facets of racing over the past 15 years. Christians aren't perfect, just
forgiven! blk3: Ray Evernham out to be ashamed for admitting he has neglected his young
son! Big D: The only difference between Ray and many other winning or contending crew
chiefs and their family relationships is likely to be his honesty. I'll bet it tears his
heart out to have to commit so much time to his job, but I'll bet 30 of 50 crew chief and
pit teams would say the same thing. I empathize with Ray, respect his honesty and wish it
were some other way. blk3: Jeff doesn't spend enough time signing autographs. Big D: I
find it amazing that good deeds are so overshadowed by a few 'alleged' misdeeds. From what
I hear and read, Jeff spends a lot of time with charitable organizations, disadvantaged
kids etc. Further, he is so recognized, so popular, he probably suffers the same problems
Tiger Woods described: no safe haven! Conclusion: I don't dwell on, even think about, the
checkered past of good ole DE. The fact he is on his third marriage, the fact he was
'alleged' to be a high activity infidel, the most unfriendly celebrity, etc. etc., isn't
my focus. I don't know enough, personally, to pass judgement on him. I want my driver to
win but I will give any driver his dues when he runs a good race. Jeff is young, probably
naive in many ways and just does his best. Is he perfect? NO! Will he mature, yes. But why
caste aspirations at a guy who has high morals, is articulate, is an excellent driver,
loves and respects his wife, loves God and says so, and is recognized by many of his
driving peers as a good guy, excellent talent, and someone dedicated to his sport? Name 10
athletes, tops in their sport, which you can point to with pride and say to your kids,
This is a good role model!” Jeff would top the list! Indian prayer: Never criticize a
man until you have walked a moon in his moccasins! |
