Earnhardt To Be Honored At During Bristol Race Weekend
BRISTOL, TN - Bristol Motor Speedway, along with tens of thousands of fans, will pay tribute to the late Dale Earnhardt during the upcoming Food City 500/Cheez-lt 250 races at EMS this weekend.
In addition to a special tribute during Food City 500 pre-race ceremonies, the Speedway painted the familiar number '3' on the track apron in each of Bristol's four turns.
The "Earnhardt Wall of Remembrance", made possible by the Sanford Corporation whose Sharpie brand will sponsor the August Winston Cup race at Bristol, is located beneath the Kulwicki Grandstand near the speedway's main office just outside turn one. The wall provides a place for fans to express their feelings, thoughts and memories of the nine-time Bristol winner.
A special insert, "Remembering Earnhardt" Dale's Days (and Nights) at Bristol," also will be given away with each Food City 500 souvenir race program. The insert chronicles Earnhardt's career at BMS and includes reprinted stories from his nine Winston Cup BMS victories and a variety of photographs.
"Not surprisingly, in recent weeks fans flooded us with ideas for tributes to the man who meant so much to the history of this speedway," said Jeff Byrd, BMS vice president and general manager. "In many ways Dale Earnhardt personified Bristol Motor Speedway, as he and the '3' car played a significant role in many of the speedway's defining moments. We encourage fans to spend the Food City 500 weekend remembering more than 20 years of Dale Earnhardt at Bristol."
