Bristol: August 28, 1999

Earnhardt/Labonte sell tickets at Bristol
Following the Goody's 500 at Bristol just over a week ago where Earnhardt tapped Labonte for the win, it took less than three hours for Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway to sell out of the 12,700 additional seats that went on sale Tuesday morning. More than 400 people camped out Monday night at the speedway's ticket office to purchase tickets in person. Following Tuesday's sell-out, Speedway Motorsports Inc. chairman Bruton Smith and SMI engineers said they would accelerate plans for future BMS expansion to help meet ticket demand.

Earnhardt: Love him or hate him
By Gary Harris, Editors Viewpoint - Super Speedways cannot tolerate the kind of banging and bumping that went on Saturday night at Bristol and Earnhardt, best of all, knows that (Talladega '97).

But Bristol is short track racin'. I was there and it was one of the most exciting races I have been to in a while and I attend 4 to 6 races a year.

And as much as Earnhardt got booed, you know NASCAR is loving it.

Darlington will be sold out and every race track for the rest of the season will be short on tickets. Track owners are already trying to figure out how to squeeze a few more butts in the stands. And the 14, 000 seats Bruton is adding at Bristol will be sold the very day they go on sale. TV rating for the Southern 500 at Darlington this Sunday may be the highest rated race broadcast of the year.

Earnhardt has always (until recent years) been a love him or hate him figure. I think that is why his fan base is so loyal...they choose to love him, stand by him, defend him and support him no matter what.

Until just recent years, when NASCAR has tried to portray a squeaky clean corporate image, the line that separated the Earnhardt: love him or hate him crowd was a barbed wire just couldn't sit there. In the past few years the barbed wire fence has sagged. Saturday night somebody snatched that sucker tight again and caught some fence stragglers right where it hurts! Ouch!

I just love that Saturday night, under the lights, rubbin' and racin' at Bristol.

Earnhardt Wins Goody's 500 - We were there (race recap)

"If they're not cheering, they better be booing" - Dale Earnhardt

WOW! What a weekend!
What more could you ask for.  There was all the excitement of short track racin' that you can get at a half-mile concrete track surrounded by 140,000 race fans and we were right in the middle of it. What more could you ask for.  There was all the excitement of short track racin' that you can get at a half-mile concrete track surrounded by 140,000 race fans and we were right in the middle of it.

Dale Earnhardt overcame numerous on track encounters, including his teammate Mike Skinner who seems intent on wrecking Earnhardt, and a final lap bout with Terry Labonte in a stirring (and what some say, "a controversial") finish to capture the Goody's Headache Powder 500 at Bristol Motor Raceway.

Oh and about the boo's:  It wasn't long ago that you either loved him or hated him.  When the resounding boo's filled Bristol Motor Speedway you could just see a little grin come across the Intimidator's face.  I could just hear him say to himself, "Damn this feels good." Full Story

Monte Carlo Testing
The 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo is scheduled to be on the track Aug. 30-31 at Gateway International Raceway outside St. Louis. Teammates Mike Skinner and Dale Earnhardt are scheduled to drive the car. Richard Childress Racing developed the cars for all the tracks except Daytona and Talladega. Hendrick Motorsports developed the restrictor-plate cars. UPDATE (Sept 1, 1999) Drivers have mixed opinions about the test session. Full story at Speedvision.

Bristol Here we come
It's Bristol Night Time Thunder again and we are off to the races. Since we will be at Bristol for the next several days we will be unable to update our news until Monday.  However, if you have never been to Bristol or even if you have you might want to check out our Bristol Photo Gallery from last years Food City 250 and Goody's 500. Go Earnhardt's ... all three this week, Kerry Earnhardt attempting the Food City 250 with a new team,  Dale Jr trying to stretch out his points lead in the Food City 250 and Dale Earnhardt in the Goody's 500. Dale Earnhardt has 9 victories and over one million dollars in winnings at BMS.
